It’s not just fuel getting more expensive right now. Experts warn laptop prices could rise sharply in the coming months as key components become more costly. Many of the cheapest models could disappear from store shelves entirely.
Tech-savvy users have already noticed it for several months: hardware prices are skyrocketing. Whether it’s memory, SSDs, or processors, costs are rising across the board. This also affects companies that offer notebooks and have to purchase all of these components. Researchers at TrendForce have analyzed the market and are now warning of significant price increases and their potential impact.
This Is How Much More Expensive Your Next Notebook Could Be
TrendForce bases its analysis on mainstream notebooks priced around $900 US. Rising prices for RAM and SSDs alone could push prices up by more than 30 percent. But the situation could get even worse.
TrendForce also observes that processors are not getting any cheaper. A combination of rising memory, storage, and CPU prices could lead to an increase of as much as 40 percent. In that scenario, the $900 notebook used in the example would suddenly cost almost $1,300.
According to TrendForce, the share of these three components in the total bill of materials of a notebook could rise from 45 percent to 58 percent. TrendForce expects this level to be reached in the first quarter of 2026.
Rising Prices Are Only One Part of the Problem
However, the issue is not limited to rising prices. According to TrendForce, it is also becoming increasingly difficult for manufacturers to obtain the necessary components at all. Suppliers’ inventories are running empty as demand from the AI industry continues to grow.
Large companies face fewer difficulties because they often have long-term contracts with companies such as Intel or AMD. They purchase large volumes and are therefore considered reliable customers. Smaller manufacturers are in a different position. They face greater cost pressure, and the risk of missing deliveries is also higher.
This could mean that not only prices will rise. Some companies may no longer be able to offer their notebooks at all because they simply cannot obtain the necessary components.
